Aetherback Turtle – Nebula Core Fumed Glass Pendant

Aetherback Turtle – Nebula Core Fumed Glass Pendant

Sale price  $45.00 USD Regular price  $65.00 USD

Handmade borosilicate turtle pendant with a lavender body and an encased gold and silver fume nebula core. Each Aetherback Turtle is kiln-annealed, sculpted by Essex Glass Studio in Owensboro, KY, and ready to wear as a small cosmic companion.

Solid lampworked glass pendant in the form of a sea turtle, sculpted in transparent lavender borosilicate. The body is built from a central lens “shell” with applied limbs and head, plus a downward trailing tail that gives the piece a sense of motion.

The shell features an encased fume lens: gold and silver fume layered over clear, then gathered and encased to create a swirling nebula effect. Inside the lens, soft blue and cream clouds spiral toward a central vortex, ringed by warmer tan / honey tones near the rim. Under directional light, subtle iridescent sheens are visible and the blues deepen, giving a planetary “ocean-world” impression.

The turtle’s limbs are rounded and bubble-like, keeping the silhouette clean and friendly instead of anatomical. Suspension is via an integrated loop at the top of the head, sculpted from the same lavender tubing, accommodating cord or small chain. Overall polish and surface finish are glossy; no chill marks or scuzz visible in the photos.

Core visual identity: a cosmic / aetheric sea turtle carrying a miniature nebula within its shell.

🎓 Did You Know? (5)

1. Sea turtles in folklore are often depicted as carrying worlds or oceans on their backs, which makes the nebula-core concept a natural visual fit.

2. Encased fume lenses like this one rely on carefully balancing heat so the gold and silver don’t burn out before being sealed under clear.

3. Transparent lavender borosilicate often shifts in tone depending on lighting temperature, which is why this turtle reads very differently under cool vs warm lights.

4. Small-format animal pendants are a classic “entry point” for new collectors: they’re wearable, giftable, and still carry the technical flex of more complex sculpture.

5. Establishing a named line (like “Aetherback Turtles”) builds long-term value, because collectors can chase variations and early-numbered pieces once the series grows.
